Trappeto Maratea Museum

Museum

Vico del Gargano ‘s most important town museum is housed inside the ancient oil mill once owed by the town’s noble families located at the entrance to the medieval old town right behind the castle of Frederick II. The museum traces the history of the production of olive oil through the ancient millstones the wooden and rock-hewn presses along with a collection that numbers around 150 tools and implements used for the production of the precious `table liquid gold’. The museum also accommodates the monacesca kitchen a sort of hearth teeming with everyday life objects such as the ancient calessi tools used for cheese production and period clothing. The picture of the old daily life is completed by the sections dedicated to pastoralism and cereal growing. During pomological exhibitions more frequent in summer the museum offers tastings of e.v.o oil and Gargano fruits such as the excellent citruses and pears.
