Labova e Kryqit
The St. Mary church in Labova e Kryqit represents one of the most emblematic medieval monuments of Albania and simultaneously is one among the most renowned examples of byzantine architecture. It is located at the heart of the village and with its monumentality and grandeur dominates the surrounding picturesque view. The particular planimetric and volumetric solutions of the first phase of the church, have pushed various researchers to discuss different dates which range the 10th to the 13th century. Nevertheless, judging on the architectural and decorative handling of the monument, both interior and exterior, all researchers concur that we are dealing with an elaborate monument of primary standing.
The large dimensions of the monument testify to a period of advancement in religious constructions and an undertaking of great expense of the donor for its foundation.
